What to put on it
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, the name and the age. A photo works on a 3 x 6 ft or larger. For a milestone, the year of birth or a short line. For a drive by party, keep the name very large so it reads from a moving car.
The size most people choose
A 2 x 6 ft banner is long and narrow. It fits over a doorway, along a deck or stair railing, across a classroom wall or on the front of a long folding table. It is $33.99 for one and $31.61 each at 5 or more. Other sizes run from 2 x 4 ft at $21.99 to 4 x 10 ft at $83.99.
How to hang it
On a wood fence, use thumbtacks or small screws through the grommets. On a garage door or brick, use outdoor adhesive hooks and string. Indoors, painter tape at the corners works for a day.
Files, templates and proofs
Design it online from a template, type your text into the quick builder on the vinyl banners page, or upload your own file. Send a PDF, PNG or JPG at 72.5 x 24.5 inches, which is the trim size plus 0.25 inch bleed on each edge, at 100 DPI: 7250 x 2450 pixels. Half scale at 200 DPI gives the same pixel count. Keep text at least 1 inch inside the trim. There is no proof step, so check spelling, dates and phone numbers before you order.
How long 13 oz vinyl lasts outdoors
13 oz scrim vinyl printed with UV inks holds its color for about 3 to 5 years outdoors. Wind is the main wear point, at the grommets, so pull every grommet snug rather than tying only the corners. Roll it print side out for storage, never fold it.
