What the H stake is
An H stake is a steel wire frame shaped like the letter H. The two short prongs slide up into the flutes of the coroplast sign and the two long legs go into the ground. Ours are galvanized so they do not rust in sprinklers or rain. The frame is about 10 inches wide and 30 inches tall, which leaves roughly 20 inches above the grass once it is pushed in.
Why the stake is included
Most online printers list the sign and sell the stake separately at checkout, often for about $2 each. On a ten pack that adds around $20 that was not in the price you first saw. We include one stake with every sign and put it in the price, so the number on the page is the number that ends up in the ground.
Installing in hard ground
Soak the spot with a hose for ten minutes first. Set the stake, put a scrap piece of wood across the top bar and press down with your foot, or tap the wood with a rubber mallet. Never hammer the wire directly, it bends. In clay or rocky soil, push a long screwdriver in at each leg to open a pilot hole. Slide the sign on last so it does not crease.

Questions about yard signs with stakes
Is the stake really free?
Yes. One galvanized H stake is included with every sign at no charge. It is part of the sign price.
How tall is the sign once it is in the ground?
The stake is about 30 inches tall. Pushed about 10 inches into the soil, the bottom of an 18 x 24 sign sits roughly a foot above the grass.
Will the stake rust?
The wire is galvanized steel, so sprinklers and rain do not rust it in normal use.
Can I buy extra stakes?
Stakes ship with signs only, one per sign. Reply to your order confirmation if one arrives bent and we send a replacement.
How do I get the stake into hard ground?
Water the spot first, then press the top bar down with a piece of wood under your foot. Do not hammer the wire directly.
