What size yard sign should I get
Choose 18 x 24 inches for a real estate listing or general street facing message, 12 x 18 for close directional signs, and 24 x 36 for contractors or campaigns on busy roads. Allow 1 inch of letter height for every 10 feet of viewing distance. One 18 x 24 double sided sign costs $17.99, or $12.99 each for ten, with a free stake per sign.

Start with the distance, not the amount of text
Measure from the sign location to the person who needs to read it. At 30 feet, the important words should be about 3 inches tall. At 60 feet, use about 6 inches. The rule is a planning guideline, not a guaranteed reading distance: speed, light, contrast and eyesight all matter. A small phone number underneath does not share the headline's range.
A larger panel only improves visibility when you enlarge the lettering. Keep the main message to two or three words, use strong contrast and reserve a separate line for the phone number. Stand at the intended viewing point before ordering; a parked car, shrub or fence can obscure even a large sign.
12 x 18 inches for close decisions
This size suits walkway directions, garage sale arrows and slow parking lot traffic. A 3 inch headline is a practical starting point for about 30 feet. Use one destination and one arrow rather than a full street address. The 12 x 18 dimensions describe the panel; its stake is separate and included. Install it where the decision happens, not after the turn.
18 x 24 inches for real estate and everyday use
Real estate agents usually choose 18 x 24 for the main listing or open house message. It has room for a prominent headline, an agent name and a contact line without making every line tiny. With 4 to 5 inch main letters, plan for roughly 40 to 50 feet. Double sided printing helps when traffic approaches from both directions; it does not change the panel size.
24 x 36 inches for busy roads
Contractors and campaigns often choose 24 x 36 when the audience is farther away or moving faster. Main letters around 6 to 8 inches support a planning range of 60 to 80 feet. Use the extra space for larger words rather than a longer list of services. Check the property line, local sign limits and wind exposure before picking the larger panel.
